Tom Harvey, affectionately known to everyone as “Stretch”, is co-owner of Oceanflow Yoga Studio. Born in Cornwall and having the privilege of growing up on the beautiful beaches surrounding Newquay has led him to always have a deep connection with nature and in particular a love for the ocean. He first started practicing yoga whilst studying in Australia in 2001. Inspired by the healthy outdoor culture that surrounded him, he wanted to be a part of it and so immersed himself in yoga and surfing.
Stretch found that the more he practiced yoga, the more he wanted to learn and this opened up a whole new way of looking at both life and himself. He soon realised that he was on the wrong career path, guilty of chasing money rather than doing what he loved and adding value to peoples’ lives.
Stretch’s main passion is with people starting out their journey into the world of yoga. He runs regular beginners courses in both yoga and meditation throughout the year.
Stretch decided to take his initial 200hr teacher training in 2014 immersed in the untouched jungles of Costa Rica, completely surrounded by nature.
He then went on to study a further 550hrs in Hot Yoga and Further Anatomy with Ethos Yoga in Cambridge (Now SOMA HOUSE).
He set up Oceanflow Yoga’s hot yoga studio in 2015 and loves nothing more than to sweat it out in the hot room followed by a plunge in the ocean afterwards. More recently Stretch has looked to other sources than the traditional yoga trainings to further his knowledge. This has taken him on a mind opening journey into the worlds of quantum physics, life coaching and psychology.
With this diverse knowledge base, his classes often incorporate some or all of these topics.
“It is an honour to be able to share with people what I have learnt over the years and love seeing how quickly the body and mind start to respond to practising yoga”
